The Wood Ceramic Furniture, 2010 By Kesem Yahav and Yoncho Cao
The wood-ceramic furniture is a collaborative project between Jonathan Cao, a cabinetmaker, and Kesem Yahav, a ceramic designer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Their first furniture and home accessories collection launched in 2010, combining wood and ceramic. The wooden furniture is fitted with ceramic details, while the ceramic objects feature wooden elements. All pieces are made from solid wood and glazed ceramic. Handcrafted in limited quantities, each item meets high standards of quality and design, drawing inspiration from the elegant, modern, and timeless furniture of the 1950s and 60s.
This functional collection emphasizes simple, clean lines and plays with basic square and round shapes. A splash of bold-colored glaze adds a twist and personality to the objects. As a couple, it felt natural to merge these different mediums; the interaction between these two foundational materials creates unique designs that accentuate contrasts in material, texture, color, and form. This symbiotic relationship creates a clean, refined aesthetic that unites and elevates the materials into distinctive designs.
