Slab building workshop

Architectural form, 3-hour workshop

Slab building is working with sheets of rolled Clay. You can cut, fold, curve, and join the clay sheets.

It is a beautiful way to create structure, forms, and detailed pieces. I enjoy this way of working and can spend hours designing and building slab pieces.

In this workshop, you will learn about the slabbing technique and how to make an architectural form.

You can add imprinted, textural surfaces and cut-out details to make your creative structure.

We will work with soft and hard slabs. When slabs are left to dry, they are easier to construct, making them perfect for building architectural pieces.

I will demonstrate and give step-by-step instructions about rolling, cutting, attaching, and slab building.

Each one will create their object and decorate it using underglaze colors.

When the project is finished, you will leave it in my studio so it can dry. After the first fire, I will glaze it in clear glaze, fire it again in my kiln, and it will be ready for pick up after two weeks.

You can already think about your idea and bring sketches of the object you want to make.

The Clay, the use of the Studio tools, transparent glaze, underglaze colors, two firing to finish your object, and tea & cookies,

-The workshop is in English.

-No need to bring special clothes.

-For all levels. The workshop is intended for beginners but is also suitable for the more experienced.

-Please be on time or a bit before

-I strongly encourage you to register, as the class size is limited to 10 people per class.

Hey there, I’m Kesem,

As a ceramic designer and a Life and Creative Coach, I’ve worked with various clay techniques for the past 20 years, developing a deep understanding of this beautiful medium. Running my clay studio here in Amsterdam, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching countless workshops and hosting fun events for groups. From team-building sessions to party workshops, I’ve done it all!

Cost

The price for the 3-hour workshop is 65 euros, including all materials, tea, and cookies.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained if you notify us eight days before class begins.

The fee is transferable to another workshop if you inform us eight days before class begins.

No refund or transfer if you give no notice (‘no show’).

My studio is in the center of Amsterdam – 200 meters from Nieuwmarkt,

100 meters from Nieuwmarkt Metro station and a 10 min walk from the Central station.

Nieuwmarkt Metro station- lines 51, 53, and 54 have a stop at this station.
