I designed This Kimono Vase for the Rijksstudio Award competition in 2020.
in this competition, Rijksmuseum invites everyone to create their masterpiece inspired by the Rijksmuseum’s collection.
My design was inspired by a beautiful blue silk kimono in tie-dye technique (shibori).
I love Japanese art and design aesthetics, especially the beautiful textiles and graphics. I was fascinated by the striking kimono patterns, colors, geometric design, and nature motifs.
This vase has a minimalistic geometrical T-shaped design, and I wanted the vase to be elegant and delicate, like the Japanese kimono.
I used a dark blue decal on white clay. This blue and white color gives it a Dutch touch.
The Kimono vase has three holes for flowers, and it will go beautifully with tulips in spring or any other small flowers.
